DESCRIPTION
A traditional broom used in the Japanese tea ceremony, to froth matcha tea.
The broom, also known as a brush, is handcrafted from a single piece of a variety of bamboo. Precise incisions create flexible whiskers, which are gently curved at the bottom and gathered together at the top and finished with a special wooden handle.
Chasen will work best with a teapot for preparing and drinking matcha. The vertical walls of the teapot and the wide bottom allow you to easily and conveniently "shake" the matcha in the water and quickly get a layer of foam surface. Note that the temperature of the water in which matcha is prepared should not exceed 80°C.

Tips for whisking matcha: It is best to start whisking matcha slowly, gently scrubbing the chasen's whiskers along the bottom of the teapot, this allows all the matcha to mix well with the water. Then move the chasen higher, closer to the surface, and begin more vigorous movements resembling the letter W or M for about 10-20 sec.
It is worth remembering to work with the wrist alone while stirring and not with the whole hand, which tires faster. A thin sheepskin of foam should quickly appear on the surface. Perfect foaming of the tea is precisely possible thanks to the large number of flexible bamboo whiskers. The more whiskers in the chasen, the easier it will be to obtain the so-called "jasper mousse", i.e. a perfect layer of foam.
For best results, the broom should be wetted in hot water before use and rinsed after use. Chasen shrinks when drying, then becomes brittle and susceptible to damage, so it is worth storing it on a special naoshi stand.

NOTE
Do not wash in the dishwasher!

RECOMMENDED STORAGE CONDITIONS
Storing the chasen on a special stand helps ensure its longer life and maintains its shape. On the other hand, do not enclose the chasen in plastic wrap or any other airtight container, this may cause unintentional mold to appear on the bamboo handle.
